Falkirk bindery create replica of Gutenberg Bible

Helix Binders of Falkirk have been work­ing with the Uni­ver­si­ty of Man­ches­ter’s John Rylands Library to pro­duce a repli­ca copy of the Guten­berg Bible. The orig­i­nals are too valu­able to be han­dled by schol­ars, so this project aims to pro­vide an alter­na­tive. You can read the full sto­ry is on the BBC’s website.

Centre for Printing History and Culture opens in Birmingham

Vintage presses

Ear­li­er in Octo­ber, an arti­cle by Har­ry Mot­tram appeared in Print Month­ly on ‘print indus­try arti­sans who know their ems from their ens’. He writes about the ‘vin­tage press­es’ which are keep­ing tra­di­tion­al print­ing skills alive.  Some are oper­at­ing machines dat­ing back to the mid-nine­­teenth century.

Death of former Trustee

The Trustees were sad­dened to hear that Helen Kendall died on 14 August 2015. She was, as Helen Clark, one of the orig­i­nal Trustees when the Scot­tish Print­ing Archival Trust was found­ed in 1998, in her role with the City of Edin­burgh’s Muse­ums Ser­vice. The Trustees would like to offer their sym­pa­thy to her family.

The Scot­tish Print­ing Archival Trust has recent­ly received a 5‑figure dona­tion to sup­port its work from the well-known Glas­gow print­er, John Wat­son OBE, who recent­ly sold the John Wat­son & Co, spe­cial­is­ing in labels and tube wraps for the drinks indus­try.
