Vintage presses

Ear­li­er in Octo­ber, an arti­cle by Har­ry Mot­tram appeared in Print Month­ly on ‘print indus­try arti­sans who know their ems from their ens’. He writes about the ‘vin­tage press­es’ which are keep­ing tra­di­tion­al print­ing skills alive.  Some are oper­at­ing machines dat­ing back to the mid-nine­­teenth cen­tu­ry.

Get Creative in Dundee

You can down­load the Get Cre­ative course brochure to see what’s on at the print stu­dio at Dundee Con­tem­po­rary Arts. It gives details of cours­es run­ning up until March 2016 and there are oppor­tu­ni­ties to learn about paper­mak­ing, book­bind­ing and a range of print­ing tech­niques.

Rescheduled Type ITALIC 500 exhibition

The Type ITALIC 500 exhi­bi­tion at the Type Archive, orig­i­nal­ly due to open in Octo­ber 2015, has been resched­uled for Decem­ber 2015. The exact dates will be pub­li­cised on the Type Archive and Print­ing His­tor­i­cal Society’s web­sites.

Events at St Bride’s in October

On Fri­day 9 Octo­ber 2015, there is a day course run­ning at the St Bride Foun­da­tion on ‘Print­ing on a wood­en hand press’. You can learn hand type­set­ting, ink­ing, and print­ing, using tech­niques from the 15th cen­tu­ry. The course costs £90 and you can book online.
