Doors open’ at printing offices in September

The Pen-y-Coe Press, Bridge Street, Penicuik, EH26 8LL will be open on Sat­ur­day 13th Sep­tem­ber for Mid­loth­i­an’s Doors Open Day. Vis­i­tors can look behind the scenes at a local busi­ness (the Pen-y-Coe Press oper­at­ed here for 60 years), and try their hand at mak­ing a sheet of paper. The Quar­to Press, Beech Hill Road, Coupar Angus, PH13 9AZ will be open for the Perth and Kin­ross Doors Open Day on Sat­ur­day 20th and Sun­day 21st Sep­tem­ber 2014. The ‘Press Here’ Work­shop still uses hand-set lead type for let­ter­press print­ing, and vis­i­tors will be able to try part of the print­ing process. A fam­i­ly day on Sun­day will include activ­i­ties such as paper mak­ing. Far­quhar & Son Ltd, print­ers in St Andrew Street, Perth is also open to the pub­lic on Sat­ur­day 20th Sep­tem­ber, for a guid­ed tour of a mod­ern work­ing print­ers. At the end of the month, on Sat­ur­day 27th and Sun­day 28th Sep­tem­ber, Edin­burgh Print­mak­ers (23 Union Street, Edin­burgh, EH1 3LR) will offer guid­ed ‘behind the scenes’ stu­dio tours through­out both days: details on the Edin­burgh sec­tion of the Doors Open Day website.
