Douglas Grant

The Edin­burgh print­er and pub­lish­er, Dou­glas Grant, died in July 2014. He was a sig­nif­i­cant fig­ure in the print­ing and pub­lish­ing indus­try, lat­ter­ly as the man­ag­ing direc­tor of Scot­tish Aca­d­e­m­ic Press. Ear­li­er, he had been the man­ag­ing direc­tor of Oliv­er & Boyd, and was involved in the efforts to save R & R Clark around 1979. Oliv­er & Boyd had been sold to the West­min­ster Press-Long­man-Pear­son Group, which also owned the Edin­burgh fimr of T & A Con­sta­ble. In 1978 R & R Clark bought Con­sta­ble’s, and the new firm took over Mor­ri­son & Gibb in 1981. The fol­low­ing year, the com­pa­ny was restruc­tured and Clark Con­sta­ble (1982) closed in 1986.
