The National Trust for Scotland is to offer an apprenticeship in printing, in partnership with Historic Scotland. This has been made possible by Skills for the Future, a UK-wide project financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which offers work-based training for people from all walks of life to gain vocational skills in the heritage sector. The apprentice will be based at Robert Smail’s Printing Works in the Borders. Applications are invited for a bursary grant for 18 months, with the intention of starting in Jamuary 2012. Successful applicants will work on the operation, repair and maintenance of the machinery as well as welcoming visitors and interpreting the properties.
